Re-creating the Operating Horizon using Pinned items

The legacy (2025) version of Operating had a tab called Horizon. It's no longer there, but this article will explain how to create the same list views for Projects, People, and Positions

Remembering the Horizon

Here’s what the old Horizon looked like:

An example of the Horizon: 13 tentative Projects, 64 open Positions, 13 People available

Create “Horizon” Views for yourself – or share them with your colleagues

All tentative Projects

Same as above, but with the Filter panel (Project Status: Tentative) opened

Creating this View from Operating Filters can be done wherever you list Projects.

  • Hit the Filter button at top right

  • See which filters you have applied – you might want to narrow the results down even further than just Project Status is Tentative. That’s what the classic Horizon had, so let’s proceed with that…

    • Under Status, choose Project Status; Then choose Tentative.

Hit Show projects and review that this is the list you want. Then hit the 📌 icon on the top of the page, next to the “No view selected” menu:

Then give this a name, a description if you like, and share it with the Group(s) you want to use this together with.

After saving, you can see it pinned to your left-hand sidebar.

All people who belong to the Growth team group will also see the View in their Views menu, and may pin it to their sidebar if they so wish.

All open Positions

The old positions horizon, filtering with Person: None

Similar to the Projects Horizon example, but go to the Positions list in your sidebar:

Once you’re looking at the list of Positions, hit Filters and add the filter Position → Person → None. This will narrow the list down to the unnamed ones:

Repeat the “Show positions, 📌 pin view, give name & share, save and pin” process and you’re done. The name of this pinned view might be “Open positions”.

All available People (over 50%, next 30 days)

The old people horizon, also known as "the bench"

Similar to the examples above, but from the People tab in the sidebar, then filter with Availability – the choice defaults to this:

Perhaps the “50 %” value might be adjusted to something else? Just click on the element to change it. Same goes for the “in next 30 days” button.

Repeat the “Show people, 📌 pin view, give name & share, save and pin” process and you’re done. The name of this pinned view might be “People available”.

Folders for your Pinned Views

If you create a Folder, you can get the Horizon experience maximized: give your folder the name “Horizon” and drag the pinned items into it. The end result will look like this:

The Horizon is so back.

Ideas for pinned views

My Projects, whatever my manager / contributor role in there might be

The dynamic "Me" takes the Person information from the current user's person. This view will show different results if you share it with a colleague and they look at it from their point of view. Note: change the "match all filters" option to "match any filters"!

My hours: list time entries with the dynamic Me

Sidebar: More -> Time entries -> Filter: Person: Me. Adjust the date range to what you're currently focusing on, e.g. this month or last month.

My team’s hours: not me, but Person → Reports to: Me

People “Planned vs Actuals” report for everyone who reports to me

Of course you can pin Reports as well!

That one project you keep a close eye on

Tired of always searching for that one project (with cmd/ctrl+K or from a long list)?

After searching for the project, it opens full screen, and you can pin the individual project page as well:

Search from the sidebar to see this
Now the pin icon is available

A neat collection of Pins

This sidebar contains many items explained in this help article. Would this make sense for your Operating use? Perhaps – test things out and remember that whenever you keep coming back to a specific view in a specific page or report, pin it!
